Q. I already use [My Favorite Software] to design speaker boxes. Why should I use you/LEAP?
A. Most packages perform only small-signal analysis using the Thiele-Small model. For realistic results you need large signal models which are extremely complex.
Even if you want to stick with small-signal analysis, you will find our approach is very scientific rather than subjective.
Q. I already use [My Favorite Software] to design crossovers. Why should I use you/LEAP?
A. Robust crossover design must do at least two things: (i) use the actual driver impedance curve when mounted in an enclosure and (ii) optimize the component values to flatten the in-enclosure SPL curve at a specific listening distance. Most crossover design packages cannot handle this.
Q. Do you sell drivers, plans or kits?
A. Not at this time. We focus on design-related services. However if you want us to design kits/plans that you want to sell to others, we can certainly design some very scientific ones for you.
Q. Why don't you have a shopping cart?
A. Each customer has slightly different requirements. Rather than try to provide off-the-shelf solutions, we prefer to address your specific requirements. Having said that we will probably introduce a shopping cart for a few basic/standard variants of our services, but that will not cover the many variants of requirements that arise.
Q. So how exactly does someone buy from you?
A. Just email us your specific requirement, and we will send you a custom quote or ask you more questions if we feel the requirement is not very clear. Once you approve of the quote, we send you a clickable invoice that you-er-click on to land up on a secure payment page on our site where you pay with a credit card. If you don't like our quote or want to ignore the invoice, just ignore it. We do not pester you to pay by sending you reminders, and you are welcome to shoot off another request for a quote without any obligation. It's that simple!
Q. If I don't know exactly what my requirements ought to look like, can I still make use of your services?
A. Most of our customers in fact have vague, incomplete or incorrect "requirements". You'll be surprised at how much help we provide to help you decide what you should be doing even before we charge you a single penny.
Q. I have already designed my enclosure but would like just a spot of help in tuning the port. Would you be willing to take up such a small job?
A. Certainly.
Q. [How] do you ship internationally?
A. We ship all over the world. We can ship UPS, Fedex or DHL. UPS rates work out the best.
Q. We are loudspeaker manufacturers looking for a low-cost vendor to build our cabinets in small volumes.
Can you do this for us? What kind of veneers can you supply?
A. We are not a woodshop. We are providers of loudspeaker design services, and prototyping is part of our design service. The enclosure prototypes are precision engineered primarily for OEMs to verify a LEAP design. As such they are unfinished. (They are also not "low-cost" when compared to mass-produced cabinets.) We do not work with veneers or finishes.
Q. I have a driver whose manufacturer provides only a pdf specification and SPL/impedance graphs. Will you be able to work with that?
A. Of course. We will scan the graph data at no additional cost and create text files that we import into LEAP. If you want those files we will charge a nominal fee.
Q. What do "Audesine" and "Audio Design for an Analog World" mean?
A. The phrase "Analog World" refers to the fact that our ears, the loudspeaker diaphragm, and the medium in between are analog in nature rather than digital. We love designing for this space and that's why we exist. "Audesine" is a play on "Audio", "Design", and "Sine" (which represents the analog world).
