You've labored long and hard to get your crossover designed. (Perhaps we've helped you come up with the design, in which case you may not have labored so hard after all!) The conjugate networks have been optimized to death. The simulated SPL curve looks pleasing. We can help you take your design to the next level:
- If you're an OEM looking to go to market with a new system or a DIY kit, you will certainly want to go to the next level - empirical refinement.
- If you're a DIYer creating a new system from scratch but can't really handle the electronics, you want the crossover built by someone who understands your needs.
- If you're an audiophile restoring or reincarnating a vintage classic, you probably have the vintage drivers and an enclosure to match, but feel that the vintage crossover's legacy design and aging electronics may not quite do justice to the system.
We can provide a complete, tested prototype of the crossover we
design, or of a
design that you may already have. (Incidentally, if you are a DIYer looking for a neat idea to build your own plug-and-play prototyping system, do check out the article "A Prototyping System for Passive Crossovers" by Ram (Audesine President) in the AudioXpress Magazine, March 2007. The article is also available on the magazine website.)
We follow an innovative method to test the prototype without your necessarily having to send us the drivers. We simulate (or re-simulate) the crossover using fixed resistances in place of the drivers, all other things remaining equal, and record the resulting impedance and output voltage curves. We then test the prototype with the same fixed resistance loads for conformance of impedance and output voltage curves with what was simulated. For added flexibility, we can optionally build in plug-and-play features into the board that will allow you to fine-tune crucial component values at your end.
Salient features of the prototype include:
- Assembly on a professional-grade custom-made FR4 PCB with detailed
silkscreen and solder mask (we also provide you the PCB Gerber and drill files so you can use them to get additional PCBs fabricated on your own!)
- 2% precision inductors hand-wound in-house on a low-distortion ferrite drum core (we use large 45mm*35mm ferrite drum cores to obtain a very good tradeoff between low DCR and low distortion for power levels upto 100 watts
RMS. If you're familiar with B-H curves, you can look at this nice clean B-H curve of a 1 mH ferrite-core inductor we captured at 5 amps RMS/200Hz, showing no sign of saturation!)
- Professional-grade capacitors, resistors and connectors
sourced from the USA and UK
- Inbuilt driver protection circuitry using resettable fuses
